Kambuchi is, in Guaraní, the pitcher: the clay vessel. Here the black closed into that shape, a round-bellied container with blurred edges, and inside I gave myself permission to play. I filled it with patches: rectangular swatches of different textures, side by side, each with its own drawing: rows, spirals, tight weaves, clearings that breathe. I was after variety, movement, contrast: I wanted the eye never to stand still. It belongs to Paisajes de Tiempos, my series of large ink drawings exploring the accumulation of time. I begin from a black I understand as primordial void and give it light with thousands of millimetric strokes of white ink: a meditation in which I give form to the void. The result has something of an archaeological piece: a pitcher reassembled shard by shard, each fragment with its own pattern, except that these fragments were never a previous whole: the game invented them one by one. Almost the entire vocabulary of the series is stored in this vessel, stroke by stroke. Pitchers hold water or seeds. This one holds play.
