Ondas.

This work carries two names and two arrows: hindo (↑) or umi (→). It is the first in the series to speak Japanese, the language of my inks: I trained in calligraphy and sumi-e, and it was only a matter of time before a work asked to be named in the language of its own matter. Standing, it is hindo, frequency: the lines stack into vibrating columns, a sound record set upright, and there my other life peeks through, the one that happens in live music. Lying down, it is umi, the sea: the same lines lie back and become waves, a calm tide, a repeated horizon. It belongs to Paisajes de Tiempos, my series of large ink drawings exploring the accumulation of time. Over the sprayed black enamel, the void I start from, I drew thousands of millimetric lines of white ink: a meditation in which I give form to the void. I did not have to choose between the two names because there is nothing to choose: physics makes them siblings. Sound and sea are made of the same thing. Waves.
