Tinta, tiempo, casi nada.

This work is a contradiction: firmly fragile. A block made of thousands of long, millimetric vertical lines, drawn side by side with a nib: each line on its own holds nothing, it is barely a thread of ink, but accumulated they form a robust structure, a block, a cliff. And at the same time that block rests on nothing: it floats among clouds of sprayed ink, so all that stone weighs nothing at all. It belongs to Paisajes de Tiempos, my series of large ink drawings exploring the accumulation of time. Here the black I start from also turned into air: black Japanese ink applied with an airbrush, a void that breathes, with clearings and cloud densities. Over that ground I raised the block line by line, in the stillness of the studio: a meditation in which I give form to the void. The edges came out torn, as if the block had broken off from something larger, and through its cracks the ground shows: the most solid structure in this work is made of the same thing as the clouds that hold it. Ink, time, almost nothing.
